Week 6: Fused Plastic Community Quilt Workshop

Antioch College's Artist in Residence Community Workshop
Fusing plastic bags to create a community mural
On Saturday, August 24, as a part of the YS Community Skill Share Day being organized by Antioch Global Seminar Students, Curtis Goldstein, Antioch's current Artist in Residence, will be offering a Plastic Fusion workshop. The event will be happening at the Sculpture Annex, next to the Amphitheater, from 1-5:00pm. What is Plastic Fusion you ask? It is a process of ironing and layering recycled plastic bags, and embedding objects (trash) in the layers. Individual pieces will be joined together to form a community quilt that will be displayed on campus and throughout the village.
All ages are welcome, but we ask that participants 12 years old or younger be accompanied by an adult. Instruction will be offered at 1:00pm, but the technique is easily learned. Refreshments will be served.

Thanks to students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Antioch, residents of  Yellow Springs, and special guest Norma Rita Limonta Guillard of Havana, Cuba for coming out and making a plethora of panels! Now, we are seeking community members to help sew them together. Whoever volunteers will have complete creative control over how the panels are arranged and what color threads they use.

This week, both Tuesday and Thursday classes are full studio work sessions.
